Northern Comfort Reverse¶
Prepare the reversal — post it the standard way.
Business Central's Reverse Transaction posts immediately and irreversibly — and it says no in exactly the situations that hurt: the entries are already applied, the period is closed, the document type will not allow the opposite sign. What is left is the manual counter-entry, rebuilt by hand: posting groups, VAT groups, dimensions, exchange rates. Every one of them a place to get it wrong.
Northern Comfort Reverse takes a different route. It does not post. It prepares the reversal as ready-to-post lines in a general journal — and you post it the normal way, with every standard check, approval and number series that already applies in your company.
Select, review, post¶
Start from where you already are: a G/L register, one or several general ledger entries, or a customer, vendor, employee or bank account entry. Comfort Reverse analyses the whole transaction and builds the counter-entry:
- Subledger lines for customers, vendors, employees and bank accounts — with the posting group taken from the original entry, not from the master record, so the receivables or payables entry lands on exactly the account it came from.
- G/L lines for everything else, carrying the original general and VAT posting groups so Business Central recreates the VAT entries correctly. Your VAT return stays right.
- Dimensions copied one to one.
- Foreign currency with the exchange rate of the original entry — so a reversal on a different date does not invent an exchange rate difference.
- Document type cleared, which is what makes the counter-entry postable in the first place.
Nothing is written until you have seen it. A preview shows every line before it reaches your journal, together with anything worth knowing: accounts that block direct posting, a document that does not balance, an original entry that is already closed.
It tells you what it cannot do yet¶
Honesty beats a silent half-result. If fixed asset entries are involved, Comfort Reverse stops with a clear message instead of producing something that only looks right. If items, projects or resources are involved, it reverses the general ledger effect and warns you that quantities and inventory value are untouched.
And because a prepared reversal leaves no mark in standard Business Central, Comfort Reverse keeps its own log: prepare the same transaction twice and it says so, with date and user.
